The cost of building new play facilities including an outdoor gym at Caistor Sports Ground may be more than originally thought.
Town Clerk Helen Pitman told town councillors last night (January 8, 2015) that the work next to the football field off North Kelsey Road will cost more than originally planned as things keep being added to the quote.
She said she was preparing a bid for £10,000 in funding from Sport England. There were other potential funding bodies which might help but Sport England was likely to give the fastest response. She said the council might want to look at phasing in the new facilities – which will include an outdoor gym, multi-use games area and some skatepark equipment – rather than doing the work all at once.
The process of altering the by-law to allow cycles to be used on the sports ground was a lot easier than expected, she added.
Cllr John Burns Salmond named three companies in the past which he said had previously been supportive of the town council. He said it was possible one or all of the companies might effectively agree to sponsor the new facilities by providing either expertise or materials at reduced cost.
Mayor Steve Millson thanked Cllr Burns Salmond for the suggestion and said it would make a huge difference. “It might be possible to still do the project all in one go,” he said.
Cllr Alan Caine requested reporters not to name the companies.
