Hospital chapel debate

Caistor Town Council is to find out more about what is happening to the dilapidated Chapel at the former hospital off North Kelsey Road.

The hospital site is now being developed for housing and a planning agreement allowed Caistor Town Council to either take over the Chapel or to receive £50,000, CaistorTown Council heard last night. (January 8, 2015)

The council opted to have the money.

The topic arose because Caistor In Bloom suggested the chapel be demolished and a monument and memorial garden established in its place.

Town Clerk Helen Pitman said the chapel was still owned by the developer. The money was to be given to the town council in two tranches, the first upon completion of the first 80 homes, the second when the others had been built, she said. The money was to be handed to West Lindsey District Council first, and then forwarded to Caistor. The council officer overseeing the arrangement had since moved to another job, she said.

Mayor Steve Millson said the building, apart from the roof, was solid. Because it was on consecrated ground, it could not be built upon, but had to be used for a leisure facility, he said.

The council agreed to chase up the chapel arrangement’s progress.
