Help to build your own house

Ever thought of building your own house? West Lindsey is one of 11 districts across the country to be selected for a new Right to Build scheme which will promote self and custom built homes.

The aim of the government scheme is to give self builders the right sort of support to get started.

West Lindsey District Council is compiling a database of people interested in being part of a self build project.

It is hoped those who express an interest will matched up with landowners and developers who could provide land and skills support.

About 10% of new homes in the UK are custom-built. The council says it will support schemes ranging from one or two plots to whole estates.

Building control staff will also be on hand to guide people through the statutory regulations, sorting out utilities and gaining the correct certification.

People can register their interest by going on West Lindsey Council’s website www.west-lindsey.gov.uk
