Caistor put on a show to be proud of last night during a packed-out live music session at The Settlement.

It was standing room only for most during a barn-storming Irish Music Night.

Few evenings have demonstrated the number and range of Caistor’s musical performers more than this one. The audience clapped, tapped their toes, and cheered as more than a dozen people took turns to sing, recite poetry and dance.

The standard of the performances last night (Friday, September 4, 2015) was exceptionally high. It was clear the town has the ability to host many other music nights in the future.

Accordion player Claire Melanophy, who recently moved to Caistor, and her friends Alanna Mayer, Jordan Hill and another friend Justin kicked off the session, but there were many other performers including Patricia Redfearn, Aiden and Jacqui Wood, Martha and Anna Kent, Jessie MJ Wall, and Sally Dowman. There was even a rendition of the House of the Rising Sun, sung in French.

Nick McCann, Helen Bennett and Gordon Rogers also provided musical support for other performers.

The night was organised by Caistor’s Deputy Mayor Michael Galligan, who is originally from County Cavan.

For those who missed last night, there will be another chance to see Claire and her friends perform today (Saturday, September 5, 2015).

They are expected to play at Caistor’s Arts and Heritage Centre between noon and 2pm.
