Parade and parties as Caistor Goes Mardi Gras
Organisers of the Caistor Goes Events Committee will be hoping for better weather today and tomorrow (July 1 and 2, 2017) for their Mardi Gras weekend at South Street Park.
The BBC Weather centre was last night predicting some light showers overnight, clearing away later, with temperatures of between 13 and 19 Celsius.
It follows a couple of days of wet weather leading up to the big weekend.
The action kicks off at 11am on Saturday at South Street Park, with a circus skills workshop hosted by the Misfits. Between noon and 3pm there will be craft workshops where attendees can make their own musical instruments to play during Sunday afternoon’s parade.
Other Dance, Samba, Mask-making and pottery workshops are also expected throughout the weekend. A £1 fee will be levied for the pottery workshops.
Saturday’s live music includes the Hull Samba Band, Caistor Ladies Choir, Cold Plate, Moon Raiders, and Wizard Sleeve, with a fire display between 10pm and 10.30pm to finish off the evening.
Sunday will include a hula-hoop workshop, live music from the Moggies, performances from Jade Dancefever and Regency Dance and a parade at 4pm.
Sunday’s festivities will coincide with Caistor Running Club’s Sting in the Tail 10k run, which kicks off at 10am. Entries are now closed for this event.
This year, the running club will also host the JemBuild 2k Fun Run. Entries will be accepted on the day, costing £5, with the run starting at 9am on Sunday.
Firms sponsoring the Caistor Goes Mardi Gras include The White Hart, Caistor Post Office, Systematic Printing, and The Forge at Nettleton.
An official opening to today’s events is expected by the Mayor of Caistor at 3pm.
