Mayor to continue for second year
Caistor Mayor Carol Mackenzie is to continue in her role for another year, a meeting decided last night (Thursday, May 12, 2016).
The Mayor was nominated by Cllr Alan Caine and was unopposed at a meeting of Caistor Town Council.
There was a close contest between Cllr Alan Somerscales and Cllr Mike Stopper for the role of Deputy Mayor after Cllr Michael Galligan declared he would not be seeking to continue the role for another year. Cllrs Somerscales and Stopper secured five votes each, with the outcome being decided by the Mayor’s casting vote in favour of Cllr Somerscales.
Cllr Somerscales had seconded the proposal to nominate Cllr Stopper for the role of Deputy Mayor.
Cllr Alan Caine is to continue as Chairman of the Planning Committee, with all town councillors expected to sit on the committee.
Elections for the chair of the Finance Committee, the Economic Development Committee and the Employment Committee will be held later at meetings of the various committees. Membership of the Economic Development Committee will be larger than in previous years, suggesting a new focus for the council in the coming year.
Cllr Angela Clark is to lead a team of three councillors who will liaise with the Sports and Social Club throughout the year, with one other being the Mayor, and Cllr Jon Wright being suggested for the role in his absence.
Cllr Somerscales is to continue in his role of having special responsibility for the churchyard, cemetery and allotments, and Cllr Stopper is to continue his role of having special responsibility for parks.
Cllr Jacqui Hughes was also suggested in her absence for acting as liaison between the Town Council and the Town Hall Committee.
Cassells of Market Rasen was appointed Internal Auditor.
Mayor Mackenzie thanked her fellow councillors for electing her to the position. “It seems like a vote of confidence,” she said.
