Caistor votes Yes in referendum

Caistor has voted to accept the Neighbourhood Plan by 441 votes to 155.

The votes were counted at the council chamber of West Lindsey District Council offices in Gainsborough today (Friday, January 29, 2016).

In total, 596 of the 2294 electors took part in the vote – a turnout of 25.98%.

District Councillor Angela Lawrence said her first reaction was to think, “Thank goodness for that.”

Caistor Town Clerk Helen Pitman, who was also present at the count, said she felt very relieved. “It means it was not four or five years of work wasted,” she said.

Caistor was one of two districts holding a referendum this week, the other being Nettleham near Lincoln. In Nettleham, 1145 yes votes were recorded, with 110 people voting against. Turnout was 41.25%

  1. I consider a 26% turnout to be good for something most didn’t initially understand, including myself. So in one way, the controversy that went before it boosted the interest and therefore the turnout.
In simplistic terms, without the ‘Yes’ vote, the town council would not have been able to put your objections forward for anything happening in Caistor, let alone any potential building on Waterhills.
Lets just hope that they publicise any planning applications that arise, not only on Waterhills but elsewhere and what their objections or support may be either way.
It would also be nice for the Town Council to embrace Caistor Citizen in getting any council news out there, not just the good news.

  2. This is great for local democracy. Well done people of Caistor and those giving their time voluntarily to achieve this wonderful result and thank you Shona for reporting swiftly on this outcome.
