Did Victor eat all his Brussel Sprouts?

December 9th 2021: The Methodist Church Friendly Luncheon Club

I come across most of the stories for the Caistor Citizen whilst out strolling with the camera, and this was one of them. As I wandered past the Post Office someone in a mask asked if I was off to the Friendly club in the Town Hall, who were having lunch. I wasn’t but I did, and on the way I bumped into fellow photographer, David Riddall, who was heading to the Pig and Poke for a cup of tea, but since he is a member of the luncheon club, he soon joined me, in my journey to the Town Hall.

It was a bit cold for tea outside the Pig and Poke anyway, unlike when I last caught up with David there, in June. He is pictured above with Michael Galligan, who is taking a break from watering the Caistor in Bloom flowers, and local popular resident Victor Brocklesby.

We arrived at the Town Hall, and David being a member headed in for dinner, but there were no brussels for me so I got on with taking some photographs, and chatting to the volunteers who were making and serving the splendid looking meals.

I got talking to a lady I have photographed before, who I think said her name was Margaret. She told me the group have meeting for 30 years, and I wondered how many lunches they have made in that time?

Victor waved to me, and I went over to photograph him with his friends, and I noticed David skipping over to ‘photo-bomb’ the shot. I must ask Victor next time I see him, if the brussels tasted as nice as they looked.

Love the community spirit there. 🙂 And the food and the tables set plus the smiles on people’s faces. They tell a story.
