Dog walking request

A dog walker’s plea for a designated area off Sandbraes Lane where dogs can be exercised off the lead was considered by Caistor Town Council last night (January 8, 2015)

The un-named dog walker had written to the council explaining the problems she had encountered in walking her pet locally.

At Waterhills, the land was too steep and it was not easy to park nearby. The dog owner was also wary of taking her dog off the lead near cattle, which proved a problem for many other places she had tried. She said fellow pet owners claimed the council was “anti-dog”. She asked if the council would consider renting a field near a footpath off Sandbraes Lane to provide a safe area where dogs could be exercised off the lead.

Cllr Alan Caine said he had recently tried to establish the whereabouts of the field owner for another reason, but had been unsuccessful.

Several other dog-owning councillors denied that the council was anti-dog, but they said they had needed to enforce certain restrictions at the cemetery and the lower sports field off North Kelsey Road because of dog fouling.

The council resolved to write back denying it is anti-dog . They will suggest that she contacts the land registry if she wants to contact the field’s owner.
