Who, What, Where, When : A Chat with Harry Minns

From the Archives

Characters of Caistor

Who are they, what were they doing and where are they?

Caistor is a great community where normally so much goes on, but of course we have ground to a halt like the rest of the World.

During lock down we will be finding images in the archive and asking you to post in the comments to tell who is in the photograph, what the event is etc etc………..

Who knows, lets remember

I remember Harry Minns from around 1962. He used to bring school groups out from Caistor School out to the then primitive Woody’s Top Youth Hostel by Louth. I was around 15/16 & cycled out there regularly – even once acting as warden! I lived then in Wainfleet & brought our a few others from Skeg Gramma . He had a few catch phrases, like, “Washing’s only for dirty people”. I remember him as being extraordinarily easy to talk to.

What a character!! I was at Caistor Grammar from 1969 to 1976 and went on two youth hostelling trips to the Lake District with Mr Minns and enjoyed every second. As I remember he used to holiday at Christmas walking place like the Isle of Skye. Kind, clever, interesting, a gentleman.
