Cinema project wins £8,000 funding

Supporters of a move to set up a community cinema in Caistor are celebrating today (Monday, April 23, 2018), with the news that the project has won the maximum possible award from West Lindsey District Council’s Large Community Grant scheme.

It will mean an £8,000 boost for the fund to buy a projector, amplifier, speakers and screen. The group is hoping to raise £14,500 in total.

With support from Caistor Lions, a GoFundMe campaign and many of the town’s businesses offering sponsorship, the group had already managed to secure pledges of up to £2,000, which leaves approximately £4,500 of its target still to raise.

Chairman Steve Critten said he was feeling “emotional” after hearing of the award about an hour ago.

The group is planning to hire equipment from Sheffield-based group, Cinema For All, for a demonstration screening at Caistor Town Hall on Saturday, May 26th, and is hoping to secure the licences to screen The Greatest Showman.

The idea of the demonstration is to give residents a taste of how the screenings should work when the project is up and running. Details on how to get tickets are still to be announced.
