Alice earns her dough

by Stewart Wall.

Fifty students at Lincolnshire’s De Aston school are working towards making a trip of a lifetime in 2019 to walk the Himalayas and one of them is Caistor’s Alice Dale, 15, the daughter of Stephanie Dale, who is the manager of Caistor’s Arts and Heritage Centre.

The Citizen caught up with Alice at the Arts and Heritage Centre on Saturday morning when she was holding a sale of her Artisan Bread, a product she bakes herself in her own little bakery, under the watchful eye of her stepfather Colin, who is a professional pastry chef. The walk across the Himalayas is organised by the World Challenge Organisation and hopes to raise money to improve facilities in a remote Himalayan village. To fund her trip, Alice needs to raise £3,500.

She hopes £2,000 will come from the bread sales and the rest will come from two sponsored walks she plans to make, one along the Viking Way and the other along the Lincolnshire coast, and if that is not enough she is also looking forward to cycling across the country, following the Wainwright Way.

If you are able to help fund Alice you can find her facebook page by clicking here. All orders for her Artisan Bread that are made by 10pm Thursday via the page will be ready for collection at the centre between 9am and 11am on the Saturday. If you haven’t ordered there will be supplies available on the morning, but when we purchased ours at 10.30am it was almost the last one. If you are not on facebook you can email Alice at alicespopupbakery@gmail.com

We had our first loaf this weekend it was delicious! What a great project and a fab way to make the money. I wish Alice all the best and will keep buying the bread. Makes me wonder if Caistor could support its own bakery (again?)
