Spar to extend range of chilled food

Staff working at the Spar in Caistor were exhausted but excited yesterday as new refrigeration units were installed at the corner store in Horsemarket.

The new facilities will more than double the space available for stocking chilled products and is part of an investment programme that will also see new freezers installed.

Extra staff were called in to help locate items for shoppers and the store stayed open as the installation work was being carried out on Thursday (August 13, 2015), said the manager and retailer, who is known by his nickname “PK”.

The investment follows work in March to ensure tobacco products are kept from view as required by new legislation which came into force in April.

Some of the costs of the refrigeration units will be offset because they will be much more energy efficient, said PK. He is hoping his bigger range of chilled foods will also attract more customers.

Team members were expected to continue working late last night, preparing the store for trading this morning.
